Matthew C. Brett
Matt joined Applegate & Thorne-Thomsen in 2010. He represents national syndicators of low-income housing tax credits and historic tax credits. He also represents developers in the development, acquisition and disposition of affordable housing projects financed with tax credits, HUD-insured loans, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loans, HOME loans and various state and local grant programs. He has particular experience in the development of supportive living facilities in the State of Illinois.
Before joining the firm, Matt focused his practice in the representation of borrowers and lenders in the negotiation and documentation of mortgage and construction financing. He also has experience in the leasing of office, industrial and retail space, commercial acquisitions and dispositions, entitlements including planned until developments, rezonings, variances, redevelopment agreements, tax increment financing (TIF) agreements and annexation agreements and ground leases. In addition, Matt has represented developers in acquisitions, entity formations, entitlements, financing, condominium document preparation and dispositions.
Matt has twice been recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in Real Estate. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for the Great Lakes, a group dedicated to conserving and restoring the Great Lakes.
