Steve Friedland’s practice concentrates on acquisition, disposition, development, financing, structuring and leasing of residential, commercial and industrial property. During his 18-year career, he has worked with several prominent national real estate firms and corporations, including, RREEF, The Chicago Tribune Company, The John Buck Company, Metropolitan Development Enterprises, Inc. and MCL Companies.
Mr. Friedland has a particular focus in land use development and zoning matters. He has worked on significant private development projects in the City of Chicago and in suburban municipalities in the Chicagoland area assisting clients in rezonings, annexations and the procurement of other public entitlements. He has appeared before local zoning boards, plan commissions and municipal councils at numerous public meetings. He has also represented many public bodies in real estate matters, including acquisition of property by condemnation. He also has expertise in the area of real estate taxation, especially with respect to tax delinquent property.
His illustrative real estate representations have included:
The Chicago Bears in connection with the renovation of Soldier Field along the City ’s Lakefront.
- The Chicago Cubs in connection with the renovation of Wrigley Field.
- The Sherman Plaza project in downtown Evanston, Illinois consisting of over 200 condominium units and 150,000 of retail space.
- A 127-unit mixed-use project on the site of the former Rainbo Roller Rink on the north side of the City of Chicago.
- RREEF in the acquisition, disposition and leasing of real estate throughout the United States.
- Various condominium projects in Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, Winnetka and Highland Park, Illinois.
- A 40-unit townhome/condominium development in Highland Park, Illinois.
