Through the firm’s annual “Bus Tour”, Applegate & Thorne-Thomsen has made a concerted effort to visit some of the projects and sites worked on throughout our 25 years in business. This year, our exploration led us through the vibrant streets of the Woodlawn neighborhood, a community that has become a canvas for commitment to affordable housing and community development. From witnessing the flourishing housing developments at The Grant, The Burnham, Trianon Lofts, Woodlawn Station, and Island Terrace Apartments, to discovering invaluable community resources at the Woodlawn Resource Center and MetroSquash, dining at the iconic Daley's restaurant, and paying homage to the historic home of Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley, our day was a celebration of transformation and resilience. As we navigated the neighborhood, we're reminded of the incredible partnerships that have fueled our mission—thank you to our esteemed collaborators of this year's tour: POAH, CIC, Blacks in Green, MetroSquash, and Preservation Chicago.
